@coachgarland1 what advice would you give to ‘20’s who haven’t received any recruitment ? Prospect Days? Showcases? Play on a Fall travel team in tourneys? Any other advice ? @LaxRecords @tyxanders @TerenceFoy @ILPreps @CoachDAnnolfo @caseypowell22

Good question
1) Take a hard look at your list-were all those school within your reach academically and athletically? If the list had too many reaches, make a new list. If target schools didn’t see you play, contact them immediately and see where they are at this point.— Chris Garland (@coachgarland1) August 5, 2019
2) Look for fall showcase and PD’s. Ask your club team, if you have one, if playing with 21’s this fall would be possible. If so, have your director make sure that your list is workable and that those programs will be able to see you play and be able to make a decision.

3) Have all your ducks in a row: film, test scores, and someone in your corner to advocate for you! Could be a high school or club coach, but someone has to have your back.
4) Know when to say when...if you want to keep playing, there may be a spot for you.— Chris Garland (@coachgarland1) August 5, 2019
5) Have a budget-too many parents are afraid to say no. There is just no need to travel all across the country to do this. I always tell kids, if you have the grades and testing to get into U of M, just go there and play with your high school team in the summer.

Or ANY excellent state school for that matter. It may make more sense in the long run. If you want to play, have a workable list, make sure those programs will see you play, and don’t forget to play well.

No family should be afraid to say that their resources would be better served on an ACTUAL family vacation, summer enrichment, test prep, or just about anything else. For some folks, club/travel sports are a great choice, but this is the time to make that call.

Avoid clubs that are trying to nickel and dime you every step of the way, that go to vacation destinations for their coaching staffs(ELITE Event in Las Vegas!), don’t have a plan for your son’s recruitment, and they aren’t committed to doing the job until it’s time to say bye
